Blakeney’s Week Ahead Tuesday 2nd January
Welcome back Blakeney!
I hope you had a wonderful break with your family.
These are the remote learning notes for the week. As you read through, you will notice that the daily lessons follow the same timetable that we use at school. Therefore, everything below is your ‘class work’ which you will be doing at home. I say this as you might be confused about the homework grid; that grid is additional and can be done whenever you want to or if you have free time and fancy doing something on there. It is important for you to keep up with the school timetabled lessons by following the daily timetable of work as set out below. Please also read the additional notes here before starting your work for the week:
Power Maths notes: The practice book and text book pages can be obtained directly from me via email and cannot be published on the website for copyright reasons. Just write and ask for the relevant lessons and I will email them back.
Maths Stretch and Challenge: I have also provided challenge work for those children who would like to do a challenge after doing the Power Maths lesson.
Maths Work for Mrs Lacey’s group: For those children who normally work in the hall with Mrs Lacey, you won’t need to do the Power Maths lessons unless you want to. Work is provided for you below and this week, we are focusing on Multiplying by 5. You can use uncooked pasta to help you count or any other small items that you have lots of at home!
Times tables notes: Please remember that you can login to ‘Tackling Tables’ to practise your times tables. You should be able to find premade flash cards on that website. Please email me if you have forgotten your login details for the website.
Education City notes: If you go to classwork, there are three folders where you can take assessments in Maths, English and Reading. After doing the assessments, Education City will then provide you with revision work that is designed to meet your individual needs. That’s right, by doing the assessments, the activities provided will be tailor made just for you!
Printing notes: Problems with printing? You won’t need to print anything off if you don’t want to. You can do all the work by looking at it on the computer screen and taking notes in a notebook or on paper.
Feedback: Remember to send a copy of your work to me by the end of the week or daily. This can be done by sending a photograph or attaching a document to
Keep in touch and let me know if you have any problems. I look forward to seeing you back at school soon! Take care.

We are starting a unit looking at using the technique of time slip in our narratives. We need to think about how to describe our setting and characters really well; how to use suspense in our writing and also how we manage a time slip (a change in the time) being described. Lots to think about!
As usual we will begin by sharpening up our descriptive techniques by writing a short piece of text describing an image. Remember to write your initial ideas down, then go back and edit them. Have you chosen the very best vocabulary you can? Does your writing put an image into your reader’s head? Have your made your reader feel something? Here is a really useful video by Tom Palmer, a published author, who explains exactly how he does this.

In RE this term we are thinking about the question ‘what makes us human?’ Think of one word that you think answers that question. What animal do you think is the closest to a human being? How is this animal similar to a human and how is it different?
Christians believe that we are made in the image of God. What does this mean?
We have worth for who we are, NOT what we do, because God made us. We are unique.
How is that different from the way the world works: we are judged by how we perform, what we do.

14:15-15:00 Music
This term you will collaborate in groups to work towards a signed song performance of your own creation. Before we begin, we will watch and evaluate a range of music performances done using sign. You will evaluate the music piece based on:
- What sort of story is it telling? What do you think it is about?
- How do the performers communicate the narrative – think about expression, body language, rhythm.
- How does the music communicate mood – does it express happiness, sadness, fear, excitement etc
- What do you think about the performance (like and dislike)? Is it effective?
