Monday 22nd June, Cromer Class
Monday 22nd June, 2020
Good Morning Cromer Class and welcome to a new week.
This week we’ve got lots to do, so get ready!
For literacy this week we are still working on City Jungle. Here is a copy of the poem: City-Jungle-KS2
Do you remember what personification is? It is when you give human qualities to an object or animal. Here’s a little reminder.
Take a look at this image:
Write about this image using personification. For example:
The house gazed out onto the green lawn.
The door beckoned me to enter.
The steps called children to come and play on them.
Please email me your work.
Today you are going to make an ‘ideas page’. For this you are going to think of some different objects and then personify the objects. Try to get at least 10, or even better 15. Here are some examples:
The open book swallowed me whole.
The coffee cup begged me to drink from it.
McDonalds Drive-thru yelled at me to get a large coffee!
Please email me your ideas page – you can either do it on a document or email or write and photograph it and send.
Today is your hot task. Chose your best idea from yesterday’s ideas page and write a personification poem. You can use the poem we’ve been using, ‘City Jungle’ to help you.
Quick hint: poems do not have to rhyme!
Please either write your poem on the computer and email it to me or write it on paper and take a photo and email it to me. I really want to see your finished poem!
Spelling day! This week it is Spelling Quiz 2. Year 6 Practice Spelling Quiz 2 Ask someone to read the sentences from the answer section to you while you try to spell them correctly. Please take a photo and send me the results.
If you have time you can try rainbow writing your spelling words and/or putting the words into a funny story.
If you haven’t emailed your work to me, please do so! I love to see all of your work.
In the Pink Bubble today we are also doing a reading comprehension called, ‘She’s A Witch’. Click here to do it: She’s A Witch Stage 5 Comp –

If you haven’t been doing problem of the day, give this one a go:
Let me know how you get on.
This week we are looking at pirates. The key question is, ‘were pirates heroes or villains?’
You have a choice of what you would like to do (or do both if you’re feeling adventurous!)
- Research about pirates (the HLG has lots of information on it) and create a fact file
- Research a famous pirate and make a fact file about him/her.
- Or both!
Did you know that Julius Caesar was once kidnapped and held prisoner by Cilician pirates? Read about it here: https://www.britannica.com/story/the-time-julius-caesar-was-captured-by-pirates
This webpage: https://kidskonnect.com/social-studies/pirate/ has loads of interesting facts about pirates – check it out.
We are still working on our endangered animals presentation. This website is fabulous for animals https://www.worldwildlife.org/species/directory
This week you are going to be making a slide about your animal’s habitat (where your animal lives and what’s it’s like there). This page: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zbnnb9q has video clips of 12 different habitats.
Here are some PowerPoints on some different habitats.
This webpage: https://www.theschoolrun.com/what-is-a-habitat explains what a habitat is and has a short video you may find useful.
If you need any help with finding information on your animal’s habitat, please email me – I’m happy to help.
Here is an example habitats slide:
Remember, try to use your own words as much as possible (don’t just copy and paste from the internet!)
Please share your work with me so far.
This week we are working on optical illusions using shading with our pencil. It is a really interesting lesson and I am really looking forward to seeing your work. Please email it.

Remember, there is a really good chance that you won’t be back in school this term so it’s really important that you keep up with your work. I love to see it so please send it in. I will only put it on the website if you say that it is ok. I won’t put it up without your permission. Last week someone said I could put it up, if I didn’t use their name – I’m happy to do that too. Please send it to me. If you need any help, please email me and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
I also have some word games for you to try: t2-e-2024-find-a-word-activity-sheet-pack_ver_7
All your work is ready to go on Education City. Just look in ‘classwork’ for the three folders.
Also, don’t forget about Tackling Tables.
If anyone has lost their login details, I have copies so just email me if needed.
If any year 6 is worried about transition to high school, remember you can email me and I will try to sort out any problem you have.
Remember that if you have not been in touch with me via email, and I have not seen the work you are doing, you will be receiving phone calls to check that you are okay and to see that you are not having any problems.
